Project name: Dearne Valley
Implementation Study
Client: RSPB
Start: 2010
Public Art & Consultation: Spearfish
The Dearne Valley in South Yorkshire is a textbook example of how a post-industrial landscape can develop
a new future through making provision for nature.
Landscape Projects was appointed by RSPB, who manage the flashes (lakes) at the heart of the Valley, to advise on how the landscape infrastructure of the Dearne could connect more directly with the surrounding communities.
The commission involved extensive mapping, as well as community consultation, and resulted in a strategy to enhance the lanes and river crossings across the Valley, and to transform former railway lines into linear greenways, bringing the valley closer to where people actually live.
